What is a area chart?

An area chart is a line chart with the space beneath each line filled in — it tells the same trend story as a line chart, but the fill gives the magnitude and the climb more visual weight. Google Slides' native line tool has no fill option: you get a bare line and nothing else.

When to use it

• Emphasising the size of a trend, not just its direction — growth, volume, cumulative totals over time.
• Investor or board slides where the shape needs to read as 'big and growing', not just 'up'.
• Any line-chart story that needs more visual weight without switching chart types.

How to make a area chart in Google Slides

1. The native line chart can't fill
   Insert → Chart draws a bare line with no fill option, no point labels, and data trapped in a hidden Sheet.
2. Insert a ChartKit area chart
   Pick Area from the chart menu — it's the same line-chart engine with the fill switched on, point labels included.
3. Style it and keep it live
   Apply your palette, add a CAGR bracket if the growth rate matters, and edit the chart directly on the slide whenever the numbers change.
